How many Solar Heating Panels would I need?

We measure the surface area of the pool (length x width) and divide it by 3.6 and this will give us the number of panels required for your pool assuming the swimming pool average depth is 1.5m.

Where on the roof will it be fitted?

We find a location on the roof preferably on a north facing roof (east or west would do on a shallow pitch) that is within 15m of the pool pump and not more than 6m higher than the pump. The area chosen for the Solar Heating Panels should have sun from at least 10am to 3pm. If this is not possible, additional panels may be required. A roof with a very high pitch will also require more panels, as will a pool which is frequently shaded.

Do I need a Solar Cover (thermal bubble blanket)?

We strongly do recommend it, the solar cover is made from a thin transparent light blue plastic formed with air pockets so it can float on the surface of the water. The cover cannot heat a pool but it effectively retains the heat & prevents evaporation by up to 90%, slowing down cooling of the water at night and in bad weather. The blanket conserves water, reduces chemical consumption, reduces debris contamination but is not recommended for safety.

How does solar pool heating compare with heat pumps?

The initial capital outlay for an electric heat pump is generally double the cost of a Solar Heating Panels. Over and above that, it requires electricity to operate. The unit also needs to be serviced on a regular basis which could be quite costly. Solar Heating Panels don't require any maintenance and there is no operating cost "the sun's energy is FREE!"

Why don't you recommend the solid panel?

Because the wind can get hold of this panel and the solid panel can easily be damaged or even blown from your roof. More importantly moisture can build under the panels and this could cause premature roof deterioration. Our individual tube design also reduces wind load and reduces the need for a complicated mounting system.

How long does the installation take?

Providing there are no obstacles or paving that needs to be lifted Installation should take less than one day, no mess, no fuss, and no people walking through your house. Our technicians lay the Solar Heating Panels on the roof, once the panels are all secured PVC glue is used to couple the panels with straight coupling. We will continue the plumbing from your pump & filter towards your roof where the panels are positioned.
